Cheng Meng: Grave Sweeping

29 MAR 2009: Cheng Meng is one of the traditional Chinese festivals. It’s a day to remember and honor our ancestors where we pray before the ancestors, sweep the tombs and offer food, tea, wine, chopsticks, (joss) paper accessories, and/or libation to the ancestors.

It was a tough morning for me where I woke up at 5am to get everything ready. Drove out at 10 5:50am, passed by stalls to buy some foods and reached the cemetery at 6:30am. The crowd was expectedly lesser comparing last year, as people said it wasn’t an auspicious day for grave visiting. As usual, we started with my grandparents’ grave and followed by my mum. Weather was nice with cold morning wind blowing occasionally. Looked at my mum’s grave, it has been 20 years since she left us. Wow, 20 years…and I’m getting much older/mature now.

Finished the grave sweeping at 10am and proceed with breakfast at shop nearby.

Walk of Hope for our Earth

28 MAR 2009: Been hearing lots about this event (Walk of Hope) via radio and other media channels and decided to join with couple of friends. It was a charity event where the fund collected would be donated to WWF-Malaysia.

We reached CapSquare at 6pm to collect our T-shirt but the T-shirt was out-of-stock unfortunately. Kind of disappointed but since it was a charity event, I couldn’t say anything. Walk around the CapSquare where I would say has nothing to shout about. The place was packed mostly with teenagers (mostly Malay) and there were some events /performances before the walk started at around 7:30pm.

It was just a short distance of walk (perhaps around 1km) where we took around 15 minutes to complete it. Stayed a while after the walk till 8:30pm for the countdown. Teenagers were happily jumped and shouted, which I hope they do really understand the real purpose of the Earth Hour instead of just another celebration for them.

The Walk of Hope is a great effort done to support Earth Hour, but with a lot of space for improvements. Hope it will be better organized next year (at least with enough T-shirt for everyone!!!).

A minute later, received another call from same number:

Are You Sincere Enough to "Ask"?

23 MAR 2009: I have always been asked the same question lately:

"What happened to both of you? "

For those who really care about me, I did explain a bit to show my appreciation for their concern. However, there were minority of them who asked this with the purpose of gossiping. The answer I gave them was:

"No comment. And you don’t have to bother."

Perhaps you might think that I was being bad. Or you might wondering how would I differentiate between those who really care and not. Well, think twice before asking question next time as people could really feel your sincerity.

Had a family dinner last Friday at nearby restaurant. I paid for the bill to show my gratitude for their support and understanding. We had a great time as it was quite long since the last time we had dinner all together. Here is my latest camwhore with nephew. :)

Greeny Night

17 MAR 2009: Drove to KL after dinner with friend. Had light stomachache where I quickly park my car and ran to nearest restroom in Pavilion to settle my “business”. Walked around Pavilion after the critical “business” as I reached earliest among my friends. Amboi...it was sales everywhere, looked at my wallet and gave myself a big slap, forget about it!!

Walked over to Finnegan after received a call from friends said they were there. It was kind of packed, mostly with Caucasian who wore green. We ordered a glass of green beer each (ard RM21 included tax), which it took quite long to be served. My friend wasn’t happy with the service and decided to hop over to Bangsar for 2nd round. Called the others to be at Bangsar instead of KL. Once again, I drove all the way from KL to Bangsar to meet with the rest. So 6 of us ordered Kilkenny (ard RM33 included tax) with an exceptional “Coke” lady. Had a great night with chatting and drinking before we called it off at 12am.

Green beer? Perhaps I will go for it again next year, just for the sake of St. Patrick…

Saint Patrick? Do you know who is he?

Introduction:
St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland, is one of Christianity's most widely known figures. St. Patrick's Day is celebrated on March 17, his religious feast day and the anniversary of his death in the fifth century. The Irish have observed this day as a religious holiday for over a thousand years.

Celebration:
Saint Patrick's Day is celebrated worldwide by those of Irish descent and increasingly by non-Irish people (usually in New Zealand, Australia, and North America). Celebrations are generally themed around all things Irish and, by association, the colour green.
Both Christians and non-Christians celebrate the secular version of the holiday by wearing green, eating Irish food and/or green foods, imbibing Irish drink (such as Irish stout, Irish Whiskey or Irish Cream) and attending parades.

How would I celebrate it?

I wasn’t aware of such celebration earlier as I’m not Christian myself. However, colleagues of mine invited me to join them for drinking session at Fennigans KL later tonight, being told that there’ll be “Green beer” served. Interesting isn’t it? Hope I won’t get cheated lo. :)

Do you celebrate this day? Let’s share it!!!

Set You Free...Find Your True Happiness

13 MAR 2009: I’m here by setting you free, my dear. Fly away and find yourself a true happiness that you really wanted and deserved.

It’s wasn’t a short period of togetherness for the past 11 months, I do really hope that I will leave some lifetime sweet memories within your heart apart from the hatred.

With love…

2D1N Taiping Trip : Lake Garden + Night Safari

7 - 8 MAR 2009: Followed some close friends for 2D1N trip to Taiping. I’ve never been to this town before though I heard a lot about it from a buddy of mine, who is a Taiping local boy. Reached the Taiping town itself at 2pm++ and checked in to the hotel. The hotel is located within walking distance from the Taiping Lake Garden with quite a clean room and free Wi-Fi provided. Not too bad for the price tag of RM79 per night lor.

Took a short nap as we were tired after the long journey, and it was raining by the time we woke up at 5pm. We were lucky as the rain stopped after our simple dinner at the nearby market. Therefore, we drove around the Taiping Lake Garden to enjoy the magnificent view of this famous lake while trying to locate the Taiping Zoo that we would go for Night Safari afterwards.

The Night Safari started at 8pm where the ticket price is RM16 (adult) for a 40 minutes ride around the Zoo. The crowd wasn’t bad due to rain. It wasn’t impressive I would say, and I was pretty disappointed not to see my favorite Hippopotamus. Anyhow, I think the landscape here is much better than our Zoo Negara in KL. Went back to hotel for early rest as we’ve planned for a morning walk at 7am the next morning.

We gathered at 7am the next morning for our morning walk around the Lake Garden. It was surprised that all of my friends could make it on-time as they were normally late. Walked towards the Lake Garden, and there were already quite a lot joggers running/walking around the lake. The scenery around the lake was magnificent, with some tones of romance if you came with your loved one. Took some photos to capture the lovely moment and wouldn’t forget some camwhoring as well. Went for breakfast after that, checked out from hotel and drove down to Ipoh for lunch before heading back to KL.

It was a short trip, but the beauty of Taiping has deeply captured my heart where I will definitely come for a 2nd visit someday.

KL International Forest Towerthon 2009

1 MAR 2009: It was my 1st time joining a towerthon event. A friend of mine (Lai) joined last year and she said it wasn’t so tough, and therefore I didn’t put much training prior to this event. Woke up at 5am on the day itself to get myself ready, had a simple breakfast and drove to Chak’s house at Puchong. I was kind of lazy to drive there as parking is always an issue in KL especially during this kind of event (What a lame excuse).

There were 4 different flag off groups where men’s categories were divided into 3 separate groups while women’s category has only 1 group. I was in the 1st group to start at 8am. The starting point was located at the bottom of Bukit Nanas where we have to run about 1km uphill towards the tower. While the tower itself consist of 24 levels where water stations were available at every 4 levels. Not too bad la. Anyhow, the stairway was quite narrow that can only fit 2 person of my size side-by-side (If you are bigger in size, people might curse you for blocking the way) and the air-ventilation wasn’t as bad as expected (still can breathe normally lo).

Reached the finishing point with my head-to-toe all-wet look. Damn, I think I could probably squeeze out a glass of fresh hot juice from my shirt and shorts. Looked at the time, it was 8:35am. It took me around 35 minutes to complete the event, wasn’t so bad I guess. While waiting for my other friends, I walked around the observation deck, took some water to replenish myself, and not forgotten to camwhore a bit for sure. It has been so long since the last time I came here, but it wasn’t changed much. Took the queue for lift to get down, collected our finisher medals, and went for breakfast at OldTown (Jalan Yap Kwan Seng). It was another unforgettable and enjoyable event with a great bunch of friends. Will I join again next year? I guess so. See you guys next year!!!
