Potential Baker vs Home Chef

17 SEP 2009: You know, the cheapo me always have all sort of cards within my wallet. Put away those credit cards with some bad debts, I have lots other cards like Bonuslink, JuscoCard etc. The purpose is not other than collecting points to redeem for free gifts.

As my Bonuslink points have accumulated up to 13k and some points will get expired soon, I was looking at the newsletter for choices of gift redemption. I was quite interested on the oven, as I always wanted to bake cakes and cookies. Well, I did bake before (I mean years back) and it was such a disaster. The cake turned out like a “kuih” (*&#*&@()*$@, shame me!). But hey, failure is the “mother” of success and who knows I might have potential on bakery.

On the other side, my busybody dad wants to get a Food Steamer. Oh yeah, he always love this kind of kitchen gadget. But these gadgets would end up at the corner of store room after few times of usage as he would normally gave up after few failure attempts. My dad and gadget just couldn’t get along well.

The indecisive me is scratching my head now for choices between “OVEN” and “FOOD STEAMER”. What say you?

fufu: If you don't mind to eat the "kuih" lookalike cake, I can consider to DHL to you. :)

Danny: Maybe they can start exchanging those kitchen essentials also wo. Save money. Bake this sunday? Haven't get the Oven yet la. You so wanna eat kuih cake mer?

the happy go lucky one: I still prefer the oven. Steam food, I can always use the classic way. :)

Medie007: Abang, seems like you so wanna me to cook for you guys ler. 3 comments about it. If I really cook, make sure you finish it eventhough it taste bad!!!

mangO: When you wanna start your baking lesson? I wanna do the egg tart and marble cake!!

i will go for the food steamer... but it all depends on who is the one whose gonna use the equipment more than another 1...

jst go for the oven if u think u wanna use it...but maybe 2 mths later, it will have all the spider web covers it coz our auntie KY get frustrated with his so-call-kuih~ hahaha

Actually food steamer better lo, coz you sure you got time and mood to bake? My sis bought one at home, and never use it after few attempts, even though they were successful. :) As happy-go-lucky say, can use to steam bak zhang, pao etc etc lo. :P

Can't imagine you as a baker since you'd prefer to hangout at the gym or Pav :P , so i'd recommend the steamer that your Dad cld sure get used to steaming simple dishes eg egg curd, tofu, "yau choy" and fish or even pau.

I feel the oven is only useful if you dun hv a microwave since the oven cld be used to heat up food.

L2: Ah, so I've got my dad's pure genetic huh. Perhaps I shall prove you all wrong...

Michi: You new house lack of cooker? Organize a house warming then we might consider to buy you a cooker. :)

Freedom09: True, but oven has other usage than bake cake. Can bake cookies, grill chicken etc.

Laurence: Thanksssss

kenwooi: Thanks for your support.

Anton: I knew you will stand by my dad's side. Actually my dad can use his favourite wok to do all those dishes. He has a store room full of those stuff!!! I have microwave but seldom use it as well..haha.

Not siding, juz an observation from the practical viewpoint. :P
But if u ever surprise me by wanting to bake, I'll surely be there to lend a helping hand to get you started. Baking is wonderful! Making roasts eg char siew and roast chicken is great too ^_^

I don't bake...and steamer, can just use kuali! LOL!!! I also get a lot of points from my credit cards but I can't wait for the points to accumulate. In the end, I change for the "smaller" things that end up lying around in the house - quite useless. Sigh!!!

I personally think Oven would be better choice to go with... Because we can steam anything by using normal 'kuali'... But oven we cant do it with other equipments... Beside that, you also can bake some cookies and cakes for me to eat... haha!

Meg: I still remember the 1st MUFFIN that you baked for us. I'm sure will share my 1st time with you too.

Anton: Yeah, I just love baking so much. Cake, muffin, egg tart...wow. Just if I know how to bake all these...

suituapui: I was the same last time, exchanged the point with voucher. But this time, it has accumulated without I realize it.

Lesly: Hehe...sure will shate with you guys if I succeed to bake 1. Thanks for your support.

TZ: Your bday is soon? Aduh, then you gotta wait till next year lo. hehe.

Get anything before the points run out :) I have the same dilemma at the end of the year as well - especially with the credit card points.

I dare not save anymore points for too long now after bad experience with CIMB who self-expired them few times. Since you cannot make up your mind, I suggest you transfer all your points to me!!!!!! I will be happy!

So far I changed several good towels and lots of mineral water from Bonus Link.

meglittlemeg said...

yesyes, who can forget my 1st MUFFIN.. hee, i tried raisin cheesecake from Jamie Oliver, modified by me recipe.. ok wor.... hehe.. when wanna try? hee;)

KY said...

savante: Hey man, been so long didn't hear from you. Hope you're doing well there. Oh yea, you might need an assistant to remind you of those expired points. :)

Grandma Twilight: Exchange for towels and mineral water? Alamak, you better transfer your points to me so I can exchange for a bigger oven next time.

Meg: Agreed, your 1st muffin will stay in my heart for lifetime. And so do you. Cheesecake? Hehe, next time invite me la when you bake again.
